Reflections on Reconciliation
The context of these thoughts derive from Matthew 5:25-26.
"Many Jews longed for their day in God's court when they would be proved right and their enemies overthrown. 'Don't even think of it like that,' says Jesus."
Vengeance is God's to repay (Rom. 12:19), that eliminates our need for retaliation. However, in light of the scripture, we should be able to approach reconciliation (or even the rejection of it) peacefully. Often we can view God's action of recompense as passive-aggressive spectator's anxiously awaiting those who oppose us to get what's coming to them.
Are we so angry (at people, life, circumstances) that we become devoid of compassion for the least of these...or the least to us?
Does reality, or our perception rather lend itself to be so cruel that we no longer believe in the flicker of hope that is true reconciliation?
What have we become?
